Most Bedbug Infested U.S. Cities
Don’t let the bedbugs bite. This is especially true if you live in New York. The city that never sleeps? Good thing. According to an Aug 24th report from one of the nation’s leading pest control companies, Terminix, the big apple is the #1 bedbug infested major city in the country. They are followed closely by Philadelphia, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Chicago. Denver came in at #6 and edged out Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles to round out the top ten.
So bedbugs were all but eliminated in the U.S. after WWII due to the use of pesticides such as DDT. But DDT was banned in the 70s due to its hazardous nature. The recent resurgence of bedbugs in the U.S. is primarily attributed to the rise in international travel.
But you don’t always have to hire a pest control company to get rid of these disgusting little creatures. There is an alternative to all the harmful chemicals these companies employ. Why not call your local carpet cleaner? The owner of a Denver based carpet care company promises that with their professional grade steam cleaning machines they are able to “kill the pests and fully eliminate bedbugs in all of the places they are known to infest”. He says that “bedbugs feed exclusively on human and animal blood and therefore congregate where people sleep and sit. Our process, coupled with hot laundry and dry cleaning for apparel, completely eliminates the problem with no contamination.”
Hey now. A less hazardous alternative for removing pests and bedbugs. And you get your carpet and upholstery cleaned at the same time. That’s something I can get behind.
